Community Scholar Series - Kelp in Nova Scotia

Join Dr. Carolyn Buchwald from the AV��ֲ� Faculty of Science and the Department of Oceanography as she discusses her research on kelp in Nova Scotia.

The use of kelp for human consumption and bio-fuels is becoming increasingly popular. It is therefore essential to know what the optimal properties are to grow kelp.

AV��ֲ�’s African Heritage Month Flagship Event

The formal program will run from 12 - 1 p.m., followed by a lunch reception at 1 p.m.

This year’s program will feature the ceremonial indoor raising of both the Pan African and African Nova Scotian flags. As in previous years, AV��ֲ� Security will conduct the traditional outdoor flag raisings in the Quad and on the Truro campus at the start of the month.

Our 2026 African Heritage Month theme, “Creative Advocacy: Uplifting Black Health, Art, and Community Action,” will guide the program. The event will include a brief keynote address and recognition of the remarkable contributions of Black faculty, staff, and students across our university community.

Apuknajit Mid-Winter Feast

Join us Thursday, February 5, for Apuknajit Mid-Winter Feast in the MacRae Library. In Mi'kmaw culture, the beginning of February marks Apuknajit, when people gather to share food to get through the hardest month of the year.

This year, the feast will be followed by a presentation by Courtney Nevin put on in partnership with the DalAC Indigenous Student Collective. The title for Courtney's talk is: Apuknajit: the winter spirit- shape shifter. We hope you can join us for all or part of this event!
