He has served as the Director of the , in which capacity he co-created the  In 2013 he was awarded a Killam Teaching Prize. Max has written extensively on Latin American politics. In 2020 he was named a Distinguished Fellow by the Canadian Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies and he was the recipient of the 2022 Guillermo O鈥橠onnell Democracy Award and Lectureship by the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) for his work on democracy in Latin America. In 2025-2026 Max was elected President of LASA. His most recent book, (Lorimer, 2026), examines how Canadians can resist polarization and strengthen our identity as citizens as we confront threats to our sovereignty.

is Distinguished Professor of Chinese Politics at the University of Toronto, and Director the China Governance Lab at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. She is the author of four books: Outsourcing Surveillance: Online Opinion Management in China (Cambridge University Press, 2026); Outsourcing Repression: Everyday State Power in Contemporary China (Oxford University Press, 2022); The Street and the Ballot Box (Cambridge University Press, 2022); and Prosper or Perish (Cornell University Press, 2012). Her research has received multiple awards from APSA, ASA, ISA, CPSA, and SSHRC. Her academic publications have appeared in Perspectives on Politics, Comparative Politics, Journal of Democracy, China Quarterly, China Journal, among others. Her opinion pieces and research have been featured in The Economist, New York Times Editorial Board Opinion, New Yorker, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and Globe & Mail. 

is Professor of Politics at Toronto Metropolitan University, where he holds the , and a Senior Fellow of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. His books include ; , and. Sanjay serves as a co-chair of , an international network studying democratic innovations, and on the editorial boards of , and . He co-hosts , a podcast-lecture series, and regularly contributes to media in Asia, Europe and North America. Sanjay previously taught at the New School for Social Research and Columbia University, and consulted for the United Nations in New York and Geneva and the Asia Foundation in Kabul. He earned his B.A. from McGill University, and M.Phil and Ph.D from the University of Cambridge. His current research analyzes democratic backsliding in global perspective and the transformations of India and China in the twenty-first century.

David joined the parliamentary bureau as a senior reporter in 2016. Since then, he has reported from 11 countries across four continents. David played a lead role in CBC's 2019 and 2021 federal election coverage. He was also central to CBC's coverage of the federal government response to COVID-19 and the trucker convoy that occupied downtown Ottawa in the winter of 2022.  

Before Ottawa, David spent nearly two decades covering politics in his beloved Newfoundland and Labrador where he hosted the RTDNA award-winning political show On Point with David Cochrane. 

David has also won a Canadian Screen Award for television reporting and RTDNAs for best radio feature and digital analysis.

David is a proud graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland where he started his journalism career as the news editor of the student newspaper The Muse.
