Do you want to study Environment, Sustainability & Society (ESS)Ìýbut aren't sure you can fit it into your degree as aÌýMajor,ÌýHonoursÌýor Minor subject?ÌýOrÌýperhaps youÌýwant to add anÌýadditionalÌýsustainability credential to your record?ÌýA Certificate isÌýa great wayÌýto focus your electives and pursueÌýa special areaÌýof interest! Courses taken for a Certificate may also count for your other Major/Minor requirements, so it is an efficient way to gain a credential in Sustainability.

The College of Sustainability offers multiple sustainability certificate options:

Certificate in ESS

°Õ³ó±ðÌýCertificate in ESSÌýoffers undergraduate studentsÌýwho are not studying ESS as a Major, Honours, or MinorÌýwith an opportunity to gain a basic understanding of Sustainability. This certificate is possible inÌýjust about allÌýundergraduate degree programs, even those thatÌýdon’tÌýnormally accommodate Certificates! Certificate in Communicating Sustainability

°Õ³ó±ðÌýCertificate in Communicating SustainabilityÌýis available withÌýany undergraduate degree, including students with ESS as a Major, Honours, or Minor subject. Learn how to effectively communicate sustainability concepts, issues, and opportunities to a variety of audiences; develop skills in constructive communication and negotiation of conflict; and gain experience to conceive, develop and refine effective sustainability communications in a variety of media, from first ideas through to delivery to an audience. 

Certificate in Food, Agriculture, and Sustainability

°Õ³ó±ðÌýCertificate in Food, Agriculture, and SustainabilityÌýis available withÌýany undergraduate degree, including students with ESS as a Major, Honours, or Minor subject. It is a unique joint offering between the Faculty of Agriculture and the College of Sustainability. Explore the complexity of assessing the sustainability of food systems, including how food and agricultural systems intersect with and impact environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

RBC Sustainability Leadership Certificate

°Õ³ó±ðÌýRBC Sustainability Leadership CertificateÌýis a non-credit certificate (not based on a collection of courses) available to any undergraduate student, as well as members of the public. The SLC requires completing two action projects andÌýparticipatingÌýin three in-person weekend modules that can be taken within the same year or over two years.ÌýLearn more about this certificate
