Why choose a Minor in Italian?

Knowledge of the Italian language, literature, arts, cinema, history, and culture is an asset in contemporary society. It allows you to meaningfully interact in a second (or third, or fourth) language, and it is productively instrumental to the study of a range of disciplines, from the sciences to the arts, and is particularly relevant to the study of music, aesthetics and art history. At AV¾ãÀÖ²¿, students can now earn an Italian Minor by completing a minimum of 3 full credits. That is, 6 semesters of classes in Italian.

The Italian Program at AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ focuses on a range of topics, from national cinema to cuisine, as well as intensive language classes, to provide students with in-depth knowledge of Italian history and culture. We are also fortunate to have a very active student society,ÌýAmici Miei, which organizesÌýa number of events and activities.

´¡²ÔÌýItalian MinorÌýis an excellent complement to any Major, and it reflects a student’s ability to work in a socio-cultural and linguistic context other than their native one.ÌýFinally, it looks really good on your transcript.

This minor is available to students registered in a 120 credit hour Bachelor of Applied Computer Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Community Design, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Informatics, Bachelor of Management, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) program.

A minimum of 18 credit hours in Italian Studies above the 1000 level are required. Within those 18 credit hours, students must includeÌý.03ÌýIntermediate Italian Part 1Ìýand .03 Intermediate Italian Part 2
