Schulich Law Runnymede Society Secession Debate: Alberta Bound – Secession or Subversion?

Alberta’s separatist movement has gained momentum with the province lowering its referendum petition threshold to just 10%.

The Runnymede Society’s Schulich School of Law Student Chapter invites you to a debate on the constitutional justifiability of Alberta secession.

The debate will take place between Queen's University Professor of Law and Schulich School of Law Professor , and will be moderated by Runnymede National Director .

The Resolution:

Alberta’s pursuit of separation from Canada is constitutionally permissible under Reference re Secession of Quebec [1998], but unjustified due to its impact on federalism and Indigenous treaty rights.
