Whether you're doing well and want to do better or if you are experiencing academic difficulty, the Studying for Success team of tutors and coaches can help you reach your academic potential during your time at university. Our services and resources are for all students at AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ and King’s.

How we can help

  • You're attending class regularly but feel like you're missing important points.

  • You feel like you don't have enough time to get everything done. 

  • You’d like to bring together key concepts in both lectures and textbooks.

  • You want to be fully prepared to write an exam. 

  • You're doing well in your courses but think you could do better.

  • You’ve experienced some academic failure, whether one paper, one assignment, one midterm or final exam, one or more classes. 

Our services

Personal study coaching

Study skills coaches are graduate and PhD students in 10 different areas of academic specialty at Dal. Their training and experience provide a range of expertise in helping students in a variety of study skills.

What coaches do: 

  • Explore methods to capture the most pertinent details from lectures and textbooks

  • Help you define your preferred learning style and offer complementary study techniques

  • Guide your development and application of an effective study strategy

  • Provide useful tips on the best way to prepare for exams

  • Refer you to appropriate academic support services as needed

Our workshops focus on enhancing critical study skills, improving time management, and mastering effective techniques for academic success. Whether you're a first-year student aiming to optimize your study techniques for university, or an upper-year student aiming for top grades, our workshops offer practical tools and personalized strategies to help you excel.

Study services in Truro

The Help Centre is a free tutor service provided to students taking biology, chemistry, math, physics, or statistic-based courses on a drop-in basis—no registration is required. The Centre is open on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. with tutors available for the various subjects throughout the evenings. A weekly schedule is posted outside the room.

Tutor matching services

Find a tutor: Our tutoring program provides a database of tutors for various subjects. Tutors can help you understand specific course content and assignments, as well as help you prepare for tests and exams. 

Be a tutor: If you are a current AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ or King's student or a recent alum with an area of expertise and the willingness to help out other students, you can also apply to become a tutor.
