Become a more effective writer and presenter

The Writing Centre offers writing support to AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ and King's students in all undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

Daily drop-in session in Halifax

Drop-ins are 10-12-minute sessions (first-come, first-served, and no appointment required). Drop by the Killam (Room G40C) from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Monday to Friday.

Workshops and events

Pomodoro Sessions:ÌýThe Writing Centre offersÌýdailyÌýgroup online writing sessionsÌýevery weekday morning from 10:05–10:55 a.m. JoinÌýusÌýwith other members of the AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ and King’s communityÌýto set writing goals and write against the clock in two 23-minute bursts. No pre-registration or commitment is necessary. Come to as many or as few sessions as you like!

We offer free online workshops to all AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ and Kingʼs students on Wednesday and Thursday from 2–3 p.m.

Topics include:

  • Writing quickly in class

  • Critical thinking for research

  • Constructing sentences and clauses

  • Constructing paragraphs

  • Building confidence as a scholarly writer

  • Writing the literature review

We also offer weekly GradPD workshops in partnership with the Faculty of Graduate Studies and hold a Grad Writing Week four times a year.

Academic integrity

Academic integrity is about being honest in the way you do your scholarly work. Essentially, it is the set of rules you must follow to be good citizens of the academic community. You will have many assignments (research papers, essays, lab reports, proposals, slide presentations, and others), and you will have to make sure that what you pass in for evaluation is completely your own, and that contributions of others (your sources) are used and acknowledged properly.  

The Writing Centre staff are faculty members, staff members, and senior students who can help you with academic integrity issues. Please email writingc@dal.ca for an appointment.Ìý
