You might begin in a process, design, or production role and grow into research and development, project management, or operations leadership. With 90+ co-op partners, students often receive full-time offers before they graduate and co-op work terms count toward the experience needed to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng).

What you will learn

Your first year builds a strong, common engineering foundation in math, science, design, and the fundamentals shared by every discipline. You'll move into chemical engineering early on, going deeper each year, learning about chemical processes, fluid flow, reaction engineering and thermodynamics, before tailoring your further years with technical electives.

The detailed knowledge of engineering principles and practice you gain during your degree will prepare you to explore a wide range of activities in the field of chemical engineering, such asÌý operations, design, research and development, and management.

Co-op and hands-on learning

Hands-on learning starts in first year with Design I. You’ll build real solutions from day one which culminates in a senior Capstone project with an industry client. Choose the 5-year co-op stream to complete three paid, 4-month work terms with one of our 90+ partner organizations. You’ll also get involved through our student engineering design teams and the , an early-stage deep tech incubator.


Customize your degree

Tailor your BEng to your goals. Choose the 4-year program or the 5-year co-op stream, add a Certificate in Biomedical Engineering alongside your degree, and use final-year technical electives to focus on what interests you most: from biomaterials and brewing science to environmental biotechnology.

Past participants in the co-op program have worked in sectors including government, health, private industry, and natural resources.

You’ll graduate with a broad, practical command of engineering principles, and the problem-solving skills to apply them in operations, design, research and development, and management across many industries.Ìý

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

Admission to many AV¾ãÀÖ²¿ programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
